The United States of Africa follows the quest of a pioneer of African hip-hop, Didier Awadi, to produce an album in tribute to leaders of black consciousness who fought for the ideal of a united and independent Africa. It is an epic musical and political journey that travels through forty countries and collaborates with hip-hop artists such as Smockey (Burkina Faso), M1 of Dead Prez (USA) and Zuluboy (South Africa). Backed by a soundtrack by Ghislain Poirier and songs by Awadi, the film leads us into a profound reflection on the power of music and the power of individual and collective commitment. It uncovers a young and politicised Africa which refuses the role of victim in which it has too often been cast.
