In 2000 the President of the Republic of Cameroon created the Operational Command Unit, a special group of law enforcement personnel put in place to tackle rampant banditry in the region of Douala. Over the course of the year the Unit was responsible for the disappearance of more than 1,000 people.
Nigerian Nobel Laureate author Wole Soyinka has asked: "They say Africans are not ready for democracy. So I wonder: have they ever been ready for dictatorship?" In Black Business, award-winning documentary filmmaker Osvalde Lewat makes the question her own, preoccupied by these events which she ignored at the time they took place, and concerned about the families of the victims who are still seeking to find out what happened with their loved ones.
