Abderrahmane Sissako: Beyond Territories (2017)

1h 12m / Feature / Fiction

Synopsis

To be somewhere precise and yet move beyond physical or spiritual boundaries, to touch the human soul with images: In French documentary filmmaker Valérie Osouf’s portrait of the world-renowned filmmaker Abderrahmane Sissako (Waiting for Happiness, Bamako, Timbuktu), we are invited not only into his physical territory but also his poetic and politically engaged world. From Mali to China, from Nouakchott to Moscow, these spaces speak of displacement and exile, searching and longing. Featuring interviews with acclaimed artists and proponents of Sissako’s work, including Danny Glover and Martin Scorsese, and everyday movie lovers, including a film-loving police officer and a philosophy professor, Beyond Territories allows us to walk alongside Sissako and experience his world.

Directed by Valérie Osouf
