A Place For Myself (2016)

Child Welfare Issues / 21m / Short / Fiction

Synopsis

In this uplifting short film by young Rwandese filmmaker Clementine Dusabejambo, we follow five-year-old Elikia as she begins her first day at school - entering for the first time into a society where her being ‘different’ is more a problem than a special trait. While her peers mistreat her, her mother encourages her, together they fight back and raise their voice to find a place for themselves. A story that simultaneously discusses the pain and beauty of motherhood and childhood.

Directed by Marie Clementine Dusabejambo
